Classifications of fiberglass roving with different alkali content?

Alkali metal oxides are one of the main components of ordinary glass, and their main function is to lower the melting point of glass. However, the higher the content of alkali metal oxides in glass, the lower its chemical stability, electrical insulation performance and strength will be. Therefore, for glass fibers for different purposes, glass components with different alkali contents should be used. According to the different alkali contents, glass fiber yarns can usually be divided into the following types.

  1. Alkali-free glass fiber(E-glass)

Glass fibers with an alkali content of less than 0.8% are called alkali-free glass fibers, which belong to aluminum borosilicate;

Due to the low alkali content, the strength is higher and the insulation performance is higher; for example, the FRP fans, grille plates, exhaust gas treatment towers, profiles, anti-corrosion floors, etc. produced by our company all use alkali-free glass fibers.

  1. Medium-alkali glass fiber(C-glass)

Glass fibers with an alkali content of about 12% are called medium-alkali glass fibers, which belong to sodium calcium silicate;

Since the alkali content does not meet the standard insulation requirements, the adaptability of this type of product is general, but within the allowable range, the chemical and physical properties are good, and can be used to produce some FRP products with low performance requirements.

  1. High-alkali glass fiber(A-glass)

Glass fiber with an alkali content of more than 15% is called high-alkali glass fiber. Glass bottles used in daily life are high-alkali glass fiber products; the alkali content is too high, resulting in high-alkali glass fiber being used only as waterproof or moisture-proof materials in industrial production, and the country has banned the production of such products.

  1. Special glass fiber(S-glass)

Glass fiber with special properties, such as high-strength glass fiber, high-corrosion-resistant glass fiber, etc.; this type of glass fiber product has a high cost and is rarely used without special requirements.

How to choose the right Glassfiber roving?

Consider these factors:

  • Application: E-Glass for electrical insulation, C-Glass for chemical resistance.
  • Mechanical Properties: Evaluate your project’s mechanical demands.
  • Temperature: Ensure the chosen glass can handle the temperature conditions.
  • Corrosion: If your project involves corrosive substances, opt for C-Glass.
  • Transparency: For optical clarity, especially in architecture, choose E-Glass.

Which is the right Glassfiber roving for FRP gratings?

FRP Micro Mesh Grating

E-glass is the most common type of fiber yarn used in FRP grating and is best suited for most applications. Selecting the right type of fiber yarn ensures the performance and longevity of the FRP grating in a variety of environments.
