FRP Pultrusion Machinery
Many manufacturers will encounter some equipment problems when using FRP pultrusion equipment to produce products. Today, we will analyze the causes and countermeasures of these defects:
- Reasons for stains, uneven colors, and discoloration: uneven mixing of pigments in the resin, and poor decomposition and temperature resistance of the pigments.
Measures: Strengthen stirring to mix the resin glue evenly. If that doesn’t work, change the paint.
- Reasons for the mixing of contamination and foreign matter: foreign matter is mixed in the resin glue liquid, the surface of the glass mat is contaminated, and the foreign matter is clamped into the FRP pultrusion die.
Measures: Check carefully to prevent foreign matter from being mixed in during the molding process, and replace contaminated raw materials.
- Reasons for the rough and dull surface: high surface roughness of the mold, poor release agent effect, low resin content on the product surface, and insufficient pressure in the mold cavity during molding.
Measures: Choose a mold with low surface roughness value, choose a good release agent, use surface felt or continuous felt and knitted felt to increase yarn content or add filler through dipping tank.
- Reasons for surface dents: missing yarn or too little local yarn, mold adhesion leading to accumulation of debris and scratching the surface of the product.
Measures: increase the number of yarns, clean the mold, restart after a short shutdown, and choose a good release agent.
- Reasons for incomplete glass mat coating: the width of the glass mat is too narrow, and the positioning device of the mat is inaccurate, causing the mat to shift during the molding process.
Measures: When designing the felt width, a certain overlap length should be considered. Before the felt enters the mold, the preformed mold must have a more accurate guide seam than the teaching, and if necessary, add a limit card at the entrance of the mold.

The pultrusion process was studied as early as 1948. It was first registered and patented in the United States in 1951. It was only in the early 1970s that it truly entered the field of structural materials. After that, the pultrusion process became a widely used process technology and gradually attracted the attention of all sectors of society. With the improvement of raw materials and equipment manufacturing levels, many key technologies of the pultrusion process have made major breakthroughs and achieved rapid development.
